The Cincinnati Art Museum is a museum located in Cincinnati's Mount Adams neighborhood on the northeast edge of downtown.
The Art Museum has over 67,000 pieces in its collection, making it the largest art museum in Ohio. Its pieces span 6,000 years of human history, making it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Midwest.
The museum was founded in 1881, making it the first purpose-built art museum west of the Alleghenies and one of the oldest in the United States. Its current building, designed in the Romanesque-revival style, opened in 1886. In 2003 the museum opened the expansive Cincinnati Wing, which was dedicated to art created for Cincinnati or by Cincinnati artists. This exhibit was the first permanent display of a city's art history in the nation. The exhibit proved to be very popular with attendees.
