WE MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME
March 16
We had the first pre-trip meeting this evening with most of the members of the team in attendance. The agenda of the meeting was to introduce the trip leaders to the team, to give some information on what to expect on the trip, go over the preliminary schedule of events for the week, and to allow the teams members to meet each other.
There are 34 people attending the trip as participants, along with several trip leaders. I recognized two people who are on staff at Crossroads, though I hadn't previously met them. Other than those two and my wife, I didn't know anyone else.
Prior to this meeting, the trip was still an abstract event sometime out in the future. At this meeting, it occurred to me that the trip was less than 2 months away. This helped inject a sense of excitement into me.
I also enjoyed seeing the itinerary to give me a better idea of what to expect.
We will arrive at the city of Antiqua Quatemala. We will spend the first day doing some sightseeing and a possible excursion in the afternoon. For the next two days, we will be working with high schools students. Each student needs to develop a service project, and our team will be helping that student complete the project under the direction of the student. After that, we will travel to another small town for several cultural experiences. I don't recall the name of the town. On the last full day, we will be in a third city, working with elementary school children. I don't know what we are going to be doing with those children.
The excitement is starting to grow.
